When I first moved to California I lived in Chino Hills for one month. Then I moved into a sublet with a film student from USC in Culver City. I lived on the west side before working on Sets. My roommate was also an artist. She was a bit different. I think she gay, because she had an overnight female guest. That was not a problem as long as she did not hit on me.
Anyways my room was small but clean. It was actually a den converted to a bedroom. The manager was an actor and actually offered to let me have an Apartment there but rent was $800 and I was not sure I wanted to lock myself into a lease there. The apparent was right behind the now Douglas Theater, in fact I believe the Taper had just acquired it. That was 2002. I lived there until the beginning of 2003 I believe.
Our living room was an art studio. I stayed out of it.
Our kitchen organized after I had cleaned it and put stuff away. We developed a bug problem and I was upset about it. My room mate kept leaving food out. I think I took these pics as proof as to why I was leaving.
This is the kitchen the week before my room mate had guests for Christmas. Miraculously she got rid of everything in the living room before she had family over for the Holidays. I came home and found a cockroach the size of a deck of cards walking across the kitchen floor and called the manager. Note the pan at the end of the counter. Note I also did nit eat cheese.
My room mate was not at home. Inside the pan sat a sandwich on the counter exposed and it was that attracting the bugs.
I’m not very neat. But I hate bugs. I’m not good at dusting and always seem to have paper stacked somewhere in My apartment. But leaving food out to spoil or attract bugs is disgusting and wasteful to me. That is a toasted cheese sandwich.
This is going to sound nuts. But part of me thinks my room mate was intentionally trying to drive me out, though I was only planning on being there for the duration of the sublet and told her that. My patents have been trying to get me to live with them and move to Arizona. I’m not a child and my parents should be taking care of each other. This is 2014. Kids leave home. They don’t stay in the USA. Why have laws If parents can invalidate them and society can abuse adult children into slavery? I don’t want to follow in my parents foot steps. John Ponzio who I almost dated on Carnivale, and we did make out, told me in 2009 he was helping his family with their business. I had no interest in ever helping my father with the business of being a law enforcement officer or dating men like my dad. That is insane. And if you have to do what your parents do then John Ponzio should be forced to go back to PA and start a travel agency or real estate and stop working sets too.
