I wanted to share my first published poem.  It was published when I was at Towson High school in the first page of the school\u2019s literary magazine \u201cColophon.\u201d  <\/p>\n

Even in high school I had a thing for Nature.  It was published on a photo of a flower, but I did not take the picture.<\/p>\n

I used to take piano lessons from a woman who lived across the street from me.  Her granddaughters, one of whom was I believe named Laura, went to the same high school after me.  Apparently of their teachers used the Colophon my poem was in as part of a lesson.  She came home and told her grandmother that she told the teacher she knew who I was.  My piano teacher was very excited.  \u201cI was a published poet.\u201d  <\/p>\n

I talked to my piano teacher when I moved out to California in the summer of 2002.  My mother had called her to get her I think to talk some sense into me about California.  Loretta, that was her name, told me she was happy for me.  She told me I was beautiful and I would achieve what I wanted.  She asked me if I were seeing anyone, and I told her no.  She said good.  \u201cYou need to be single if you want to work in entertainment.\u201d  My family was not happy that Loretta sided with me.  Loretta though thought I would have made a great concert pianist if I had just practiced.  Loretta who is no longer with us, I know you cared and it was people like you who probably kept me sane as a child.  She was hard on me.  She once threw a clock across the room because I kept looking at it impatiently instead of focusing on my lesson.  That day on the phone she told me that the kids in the neighborhood would complain because I would not come out and play.  I never knew they wanted me to.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
